An e-safety inspection (or pink slip) is a roadworthiness check required in NSW for vehicles over 5 years old before registration renewal.
A roadworthy inspection, also called an e-safety check or pink slip, covers the core safety items that keep a vehicle fit to be on the road. This includes the brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, seatbelts, lights, windscreen and wipers, and the general structural condition of the vehicle. If any of these do not meet the required standard, the vehicle will not pass until the issue is fixed.
A pink slip is the routine annual safety check most vehicles need to stay registered. A blue slip is a more detailed inspection required for imported, modified, or written-off vehicles, or any vehicle being registered in New South Wales for the first time. If your vehicle falls into one of those categories, see our blue slip inspection page for what is involved.
